Headlight adjustment not working

Featured Replies

In my car front Right head light adjustment is not working. Left side is working properly. I bought a used front light as well. But it's also not working the adjustment. How do I check is it a fault of the light or anything other issue.

I have 2009 Ford focus

As it's only one side, it's likely to be the wiring on that side.

You can plug the light in to the 'wrong' side of the car to test that you haven't bought a dud unit.  The plugs are the same both sides.

Then find the wires for the headlight adjustment (you will need a wiring diagram for this) and check that there is a changing voltage coming from the adjuster as it's moved.  If there is, then there's no earth completing the circuit.

Can you confirm it's the headlight leveling adjustment that isn't working? It's controlled by a rotating knob just beside your actual headlight switch in the cabin. Or, do you mean the 'mechanical' headlight adjuster that adjust the 'aim' of the beam, found on the headlamp itself and is a screw adjustment?

The leveling adjustment, Tom has got spot on as above. The headlight adjustment may mean a broken mechanical adjuster, though unlikely with 2 x headlights, but thought I'd ask...
