MK4 fill screen wash - Am I being thick?

Featured Replies

So is this a totally stupid design that means I can't fill the screen wash in my car unless it's facing up a hill, or am I totally missing something?
The "drain" for the filling funnel part is on the side (top of this picture) rather than on the bottom of the filler funnel like every other car I've had. So when the car is on the level, I try to fill the washer fluid and it just sits there.... like that lovely smelling green option right there. 😕 Please tell me I'm doing something wrong, and not that I have to find a hill to fill up my screen wash? 😅

Well, that was it empty enough that nothing happened when trying to get it to spray and the dash complaining that it was low.

Drove the car to a hill. And it took about 4.5l of screen wash 🤷‍♀️

I’ve never had an issue filling on level ground.

Perhaps your fill tube is partially blocked?

Guess I'll need to investigate it further then.

I've never had an issue filling on level ground either, not too sure if it's meant to be filled to the spout, I do because I can tell it's full then.

Had this exact same issue. If the car is facing downhill good luck.

ended up having to turn the car around on the hill just to fill the fluids…

I guess they must have completed your profile for you 🤣

Better, but we don't mind being overloaded with information as we look at your profile when trying to help you. So engine size, manual or auto and model are useful to us. Something like "Focus 1.0 155 mHEV STline X auto" would be even better. 🙂

Done - not sure why it was removed. Previously it was my fiesta

The screen wash bottle filler is problematic when the car is parked downhill. The pipe runs from the bottle to a flat section leading towards the driver’s cab, then drops into the tank just below the cap. This setup makes it difficult to fill the tank because the pipe’s exit into the tank is higher than the entry port, preventing water from flowing uphill.

Here’s an image of the tank from google
