2011 galaxy help needed please

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2011 ford galaxy 2.0 titanium I was driving home when all of a sudden TVs went fully to the top and surrounded the car with smoke ihad to pull over turn it off started it back up as was only 3 mile from home managed together it home but still throwing out at lot of smoke any one know why this would happen and if it can be fixed and if any more damage would have occurred driving it back home thanks

Sounds like a diesel runaway.  Usually caused by a blown turbo seal.  As long as the engine wasn't starved of oil on the journey home, it shouldn't have done any more damage.  First thing to check now is the oil level though.

Hi thanks for the advice much appreciated oil level is fine one more question if it's the seals do I just have them replaced or is it a new turbo needed thanks again for your help

The turbo would need to be stripped down and rebuilt to replace the oil seal so on an older car we would generally replace the whole turbo.

Where is the oil level exactly?  If it's overfull then that can also cause a runaway.  It can get overfilled by failed DPF regens or leaking injectors.  If it's still where it was at the last check then it may not have been a diesel runaway at all, and we would have to consider other options instead.

Hi I've just been out and checked it's coming up engine malfunction on dash oil is at the top of the max on the dipstick I've just borrowed a code reader and is showing 5 faults all for manufacturer control

Ok, those code readers aren't much use unfortunately.  Need something Ford specific to read the manufacturer codes.

With oil at the top of max it could have been overfull and caused a runaway, instead of being through a turbo seal.  Or it may not have been a runaway, and could have been an injector stuck open burning excess diesel instead of oil.

Will need to either get a garage to have a look or get better diagnostics on it before we can advise much further.
