How Far Do You Go With Mods To Your Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

The Mk7 lends itself to many mods and many members on here have modified their cars to suit their personality or just the way they want them to look and perhaps how they would have liked them from the showroom.

I know we all carry out alterations, mine for instance are personal touches as I spend the majority of my day in the car (20k miles to date).

For instance I have fitted

Ford mud flaps

door sill trims

ambient lighting

upgraded the main/dip beam bulbs to Osram Night Breakers

side light, interior, foot well & number plate bulbs to LEDs

replaced the orangeindicator bulbs to "Phillips Silver Vision" to remove the fried egg look

DMB Graphics fitted to wheel trims

installed sunglasses holder from Mondeo

Parrot Bluetooth kit

Gained Access to "secret hole"

Tuning Box installed (Synergy 2B from Tuning Diesels)

etc etc.

I suppose you would say that they are not serious mods compared to what some of you guys have done. But just how far do we go before the mods we do, and I've seen some on here that have made me wince, everybody to their own taste, before the mods actually start affecting the resale value of the car or in fact limit the market we can actually sell the thing on into.

Just a thought really.

Tone

The closer your car is/looks to a standard car (possibly a higher spec if you've added bits to upgrade it) the more people will be interested in it and in theory the higher price it will fetch.

Bulbs, Ford (and direct equivalent) accessories and small mods to spec (sunglasses holder etc) won't affect your resale value, and may even make the car more desirable to a future buyer - assuming that they notice you've done anything.

Tuning parts are only going to appeal to people who are into tuning cars - a normal punter will either not know what it is/does or will start to wonder if the car has been owned by some 'boy racer' who thrashes the car. Might not be true, but once they think that, there is very little you can do.

External styling mods are probably the most likely to turn buyers away, as they can be very 'love it or hate it'. Aftermarket bodykits, big exhausts, wheels which obviously aren't original and non-standard paint colours / decals will all reduce the number of people who will look at the car - doesn't mean it wont sell or will sell for less, but less people means less chance of selling for the price you want.

everything i have done can be undone, for instance my DRLS, i just undo the cable connector and then pull back the tape, easy enough... and you will do well to spot them!

you can take all that off, only when you start spraying would i say you'd have passed the point of no return.

even my coillovers and axle spacers can easily be removed.

oh and those mountune spolier extensions, i'd imagine you couldn't remove them once theyre bonded on... buuuuuuuuuuuuut you could do a swap with cash with another member so yea maybe there isn't a point that is too far as there will always be demand on the second hand market for these mods.... there's hardly any mk7 used stuff in all the classifieds over the forums..

I think anything that is standard on a higher spec model, may well attract a higher price. Agree with Nico though, just take everything off

Thanks for that guys. apart from removing the LED's, parrot bluetooth kit and "tuning box, the rest is from Ford's Accessory list anyway.

The rest can only help with the resale value.

Thanks

Tone

Hi Guys

Gained Access to "secret hole"

Hi Tone,

Ive just ordered myself a new Fiesta, could you shed more light on the "Secret Hole" ? Is there a guide on how to gain access to it... I didnt know there was such a thing, probably because its a secret ;)

Cheers!

its a cubby hole that was on the pre-sale fez (you can see it in pics) but was deemed waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small for practical use, you can't get your hand in to reach small stuff like coins, batteries etc if they fall down the back.

it's under the stereo, its a rectangular flap approx 4inches by 1.5 inches. you need to pry it open with your key, be gentle though.
