Fiesta Lock kit options.

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

new to this forum but been working on cars for years.

I am looking at looking at a 2011 Fiesta but it doesn’t have keys.

I have a couple of options.

Option 1

Locksmith - £250 for a replacement key, cut and coded to the car.

Option 2

Replace the compete ECU with BCM, clocks, new key and reader.
which is a significantly cheaper option (especially if the turns out to be a non runner 🤦‍♀️)

My questions are.

Do I have to get the ECU / Lock kit from the exact model with the same options ? (I.e 1.4 petrol Titanium with 5 doors and Air con  etc) or do I just have to match part numbers.

Is there a Ford version of Vauxhalls Opcom that I can use to correct the mileage / Vin numbers.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can advise.

The Ford part number will have to fully match except for the last letter which can be the same or higher.

Yes, it is called FORScan and is a full diagnostic and programming software package. Please note that the mileage can only be increased, it can not be reduced.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

vLinker FS, cable for laptop: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP

vLinker FD, for android phone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-Bluetooth-vLinker-Scanner-Diagnostic/dp/B08H82WC8L

Hey thanks for the prompt response!

it is greatly appreciated.

can I also correct the vin with forscan?

And is it a free download or chargeable (with credits etc)

So if I understand correctly, as long as I buy an ecu kit with the same part number I and it has LOWER mileage than my own I can correct it.

And do all parts have to have matching part numbers or just the main ECU?

many thanks again.

Yes all parts.

Personally I'd advise against changing all the parts. The Ford security immobiliser, PATS can very easily disable the vehicle if something is not just right and it will be difficult to find out what the issue is.

I would recommend getting a key from a Ford main dealer and let them programme the car. Cost is approx £199+VAT

Thank you for your reply.
I see your point.

it was more of a costing issue as that a similar price to the locksmith who will come to the car and cut / program the key there and then.

i can get the whole ECU / Lock kit for £80 so that would be the better option for me realistically.

I do have several years experience working on cars and I was planning to disconnect the battery prior to starting the work, removing / replacing everything then reconnect the battery.

I do have Topdon diagnostics and access to an Autel system so if things do go wrong, I am potentially able to get to the bottom of it.

Then depending on how things go program the correct Vin and mileage

thank you again for your input.

You're not going to make much progress with either of those commercial generic bits of kit.
