Moisture is a killer

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I've owned a fair few of fords, used & new.

One thing I've learnt over the decades is moisture within cars.

Heat in cars will condense on a cool day, especially during the winter, it collects more towards the rear.

My MK4 cortina would condense at the rear & collect in the spare wheel area.

My MK2 & MK4 fiestas were the same but not as bad.

The more passengers the more moisture (moist Co2 from breathing) not including damp wet dogs.

I started placing absorbing sacks at first (free from work) & placing them under the seats & spare wheel.

I now use the packs, quite cheap, but they certainly do work.

Even my new cars have them, I'm lucky to garage my cars, both leak free.

Attached is a photo of moisture collected from my fusion from just 6 months, my EcoSport which is 2 years old has half of this volume.

Put one of these in your bedroom for just one month, it quite shocking how much collects.

I've used these for decades, I have 5 in my car at the moment. Rechargeable when colour changes by heating in microwave for 6 minutes...

They look good, what do they contain.

I know static caravan owners leave out trays of salt in the rooms over the winter period when the sites close.

No idea LOL, they've been available for years - they do work really well...

That looks like an excellent product.  Can be bought for under a tenner in a few places as well.

Looks like it uses Silica beads, similar to those in the small shoebox packs.

Must admit I've used the plastic box type and wasn't particularly impressed.  Yes, you can see water inside them but they didn't make any difference to my swimming pool of a Mk3 Focus with faulty AC and leaky boot.  (6 years old and 40k miles!)  I put the boxes in the airing cupboard after selling the car and forgot about them.  Only found them recently when clearing out for a plumbing repair.  The boxes were still only half full after about 6 years.

I would consider those cloth packs in future now, had never seen them before.  Though I don't have a microwave, so would be more difficult to recharge in my case.

Tom, you don't have a microwave?? How on earth do you reheat those Chinese leftovers 🤣 My microwave was bought in 1986 and still works perfectly, though they made stuff properly in those days!

I'll leave that new fangled technology to you young whippersnappers!
