Boot Lock Issues 2009 Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My fiestas boot lock is playing up. Can only open it from fob not actual boot area button. Also when am driving, sometimes the "boot open" signs flashes and beeps, even though the boot is firmly closed. How easy is it to remedy myself? Have found a brand new generic sized mechanism on ebay, much cheaper than Ford. Is it easy to change on my own? Is it worth trying to clean/dry the one that's still in first?

Any advice greatly received..

Thank you..

The boot buttons break on these fairly often.  Sounds like that's worth trying first.  I wouldn't bother trying to clean it personally, just replace.

I think the boot open switch is in the latch though.  The warning may be a symptom of the faulty button, or it may be a separate fault.

Do you think its worth getting a cheaper boot lock unit from ebay, its brand new and fits my model. Comes with a 2 year guarantee too. Would it be easy to replace? Thanks for replying..

Absolutely not!! I have gone through 3 Ebay cheapies, they are total rubbish. I ended up getting a genuine Ford one from a breaker which has been on last 2 years trouble free...

Is it worth spraying wd 40 on the connection first,  before I start poking?

Just type in 'used' in the filter on Ebay rather than trekking round in person

It's never a waste of time spraying some WD40 on an errant part, you've nothing to lose...

That may be the switch in the latch assembly then.  It's the part right at the bottom of the tailgate that catches the loop on the boot ledge.

I suppose you might find this is a wiring loom fault, with damage to wires going through the rubber loom cover next to the tailgate hinge.
