2018 Galaxy parking brake - switch failure?

Featured Replies

Manual 2018 Galaxy: On holiday in France. Out of the blue parking brake stopped working, or at least could not be applied manually. Hill assist still appears to be fine. No response at all to the button, appears to be not doing anything so I pulled some trim off to investigate loose connection. After pulling out and replacing the plug I had a very audible alarm message "Park Brake failure. Service now" (or something like). Managed to connect Forscan and enter and exit parking brake maintenance mode. This has cleared the alarm message, but still can't use the parking brake switch. Could this be a simple switch failure? It would happen when in the Alps, with plan to go over St Bernards on Tuesday. Would rather have a handbrake to use! So I probably look for a garage to replace the switch on Monday - any other ideas?

Thanks

In FORScan Service Procedures there may be various procedures for applying the brake as well as the Maintenance Mode. If so then it would be a good idea to try them first, you may be able to apply each side individually to see if it is one side that has a problem or not.

You may also be able to do a Self Test of the ABS System.

The other thing to do is to reset the Switch by doing the following -

Move the parking brake switch through all 3 positions twice within 5 seconds pausing for approximately one-half second when the switch is in the NEUTRAL position between each apply and release.

I did try the reset the switch thing. Nothing.
couldn’t see an option on forscan for applying brake but will look again tomorrow.
I did capture error logs in forscan. Now I look again I see

   code U2002 - switch

   Additional fault code (96)

   - component internal failure

on the hunt for a new switch tomorrow…

Are you using the Phone version of FORScan or the windows laptop version ?

two-roads, I've got exactly the same problem on my 2017 galaxy, how did you remove the switch? Auto scanners showing no faults and no lights on the dashboard, I'm glad mines auto so at least I can leave it in park!
