Battery Drain

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i have a problem with battery discharge. The customer came to the shop saying that apeer a message on the screen saying "low battery". I made a test and got 319amps from a 740amps batery! Then i proceed to check if thers any battery discharge with a multimeter.. its been half an hour and the numbers are 0.12 amps of consumption.. does that men thers no discharge present on the veichle?? If someone had the same problem please share some advice! Thank you!

Battery will need to be tested for voltage after charging (and removing surface charge by headlights on for 30 seconds?)
It may also need a capacity check (fully charge and connect a 5A load, measure time it takes to discharge to 10V)
Then 5A  x No. of hours to discharge gives you the capacity in Amp Hours.
BUT since new, we have had Low Battery alert multiple times and now pretty much ignore it providing alternator is charging (measure 14V + with your multimeter)?
Regarding current draw, here are the results of our test:

Time

Current Draw/A

Comment

09:43

5.20

Initial draw

2.87

Cycled between next 2 values

09:50

1.62

10:00

0.53

10:15

0.03

10:45

0.03

As the final two values are within the 0.05A given in the procedure then there does not appear to be excessive current drain at the time of the test.

So 50mA when asleep is acceptable?

Look at parasitic drain test on You Tube?
