Afternoon.

I recently purchessed an 09 ford fusion 1.4 petrol . i have just discovered that it has a annoying misfire and the engine warning light is on.

starting isnt a problem and runs fine on tick over , but as soon as apply some throttle while driving it cuts out ( low rpm ) , hesitates and often back fires . when i drive the car hard ( high rpm ) it seems to clear itself .

i have changed the coil and plug leads , plus stripped and cleaned the throttle body , still the same problem occurs .

i have ordered a set of spark plugs ( still waiting for them to arrive ).

if changing the plugs dont solve this problem , is there anything else i should check?.

was thinking that the timing belt may of jumped a tooth or a valve is choked somewhere in the intake or worst scinario valve damage!!.

Get it plugged in and use forscan software (or a very good quality obd reader.)

If guessing, you will need deep pockets.

Been there, crap obd scanners, guessing, asumptions.... best thing i ever did was buy a decent ftdi cable, install software and all the answers were on the laptop screen for me.

Use FORScan, it's much better at guessing than I am 😉

aint got a laptop. just about tried everything now . changed plugs , leads , coil pack , cleaned throttle body . even tried running the car with the MAP sensor disconnected . just got worse . hardly will tick over when sensor is unplugged .

really struggling here.
