What's the best way to get the 1.0 EB rocket cover changed?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a leakage in the rocket cover gasket? Should I get this replaced at a main dealer or just a local garage? I'm part exchanging soon so what do you think would be best?

It was diagnosed with this quite a while ago but the performance and health of the engine has remained the same. Been serviced every year and they did not mention anything about it during the most recent one. So not sure what to do. Thanks in advance :)

I wouldn't bother at all if you're part exchanging.  The repair costs will outweigh any deductions made by the retailer.

But to answer the question, a local garage should be able to do this job.  Just be aware there is a risk of other parts getting broken in the process, which can add further costs to it.

Boom, boom 😁

Does the oil leak around here? It's a common problem and unsightly, but not a big problem as it's such a small amount.

I haven't noticed any oil at all and I do check under there frequently. I had the impression that it was a small amount air pressure escaping perhaps. Maybe I'm way off as I haven't got the service history in front of me buts that's what I can recall 🙂

No oil or fluids leaking on to the floor either.

I think we all assumed you meant an oil leak.

The rocker cover gasket is an oil seal.  These usually just weep a little oil, leaving a bit of staining around the metal part of the engine, not enough to drip to the floor.  If you can't see any oil around it, it doesn't need replacing.

Well said, that's what I was thinking about, other components having to be replaced as well.

It might be a relatively big job with a significant cost. 🙂

You've just shown us again never to assume from a post like this 🤣 It was a slam dunk for most here that a leak, meant there was oil coming out, (or water + oil if head gasket blown). Good lesson for me to never assume anything, though I'm usually quite good at sniffing a mis-quote out...
