1.6 Ecoboost Petrol engine judder

Featured Replies

Hi, my s max (2012) has developed a judder when accelerating (especially under load) between 2-3k revs. it is worse when the engine is hot - i have read that this may be due to fuel filter, spark plug, HT lead issues, but am unsure if this is the case. I was contemplating putting a fuel system cleaning aget into the next tank, but read (on the ford website) that this is a no-no.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue, and if so, what was the fix?

Worse when hot is usually caused by an ignition coil fault.

There are no HT leads on this engine so those can be ruled out.  It could be a spark plug, and those are the cheapest things to change if you want to try replacing something without doing any further diagnostics.

If you have access to Ford specific diagnostics, they may be able to pinpoint which cylinder is misfiring.  Then you can swap the coil from that cylinder to another, to test if the coil is at fault.
