Ford Focus Eco boost 1.0 BJ63 start up issue

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I have sent my car into the garage with the following issues. The mechanic is struggling with finding the fault. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been having an intermittent issue with the Revs bouncing up and down at start up. Sometimes causing the engine to stall. The engine shakes and sounds like a tractor untill it is left running and the engine has time to settle. It then seems ok. 😕

The second issue is a recent one where on excellerating away sharply the car seems to judder instead of gathering speed sometimes harshly, which can obviously create issues with road and passenger safety.

excellerating slowly the issue doesn't seem to be present. Also seems to be an intermittent issue as it is not always present.

Thank you for any support u can offer or any ideas I can present to the mechanic. I've left it with him so he can witness the cold start, I would just be more confident if I can present him with some possible solutions

Thanks again..

That sounds like a misfire.  Unfortunately it can be caused by many different things.  If there are no useful fault codes then we would usually start with spark plugs and coils.  Then move onto fuel injectors.  Worst case scenario is a loss of compression from a failed headgasket or slipped cambelt though that's unlikely if it settles to a smooth idle when warm.

Have the wetbelts been replaced?  The VCT system may be getting clogged with bits if wetbelt if not.

Headgasket was already repaired and wet belt has been replaced twice already, had so many issues with this car it unreal. Hopefully it is something as simple as spark plugs
