Parasitic Drain Of Battery - Any ideas on what to look for?

So on Sunday I went out to my car and the fob would not unlock my car, managed to get in through the keyhole. Nothing at all would turn on I called RAC suspected flat battery they managed to get it started and said alternator is charging the battery there must be a drain somewhere within the car or the battery is on its way out. So I brought a new Yuasa battery (stop start) and put it in went to start my car yesterday and it struggled to start but started in the end. I suspect the battery is still being drained by something, I triple checked nothing was left on in the car when I locked it for the night. I read elsewhere it could be the sync radio so I spent a hour in the car yesterday with the engine running updating the radio system, today I have gone to start the car and it struggled yet again more than the day before. I do not have any Dashcam plugged in either nor have anything plugged into the usb/cig lighter slots.

Does anyone have any idea what I could try to stop this from happening? My girlfriend is heavily pregnant and I am scared that it is going to do this when we need it most.

Thanks for any advice.

I doubt that your girlfriend being pregnant is causing the drain on the battery, your wallet very possibly 🤣

You need to use a multimeter and start testing each circuit to see if any are drawing current when the car is switched off. Parasitic current draws are hard to track down even for professional auto-electricians, so unless you have a lot of electrical experience I think you are going to need help.

Very much my wallet 😂.

Thanks for your reply, I was lurking around other posts within ford owners club and came across something that stated that. I cant afford to take it to main dealer at the minute sadly because it will cost a arm and a leg. I guess its process of elimination, its just sods law that it has come about at this time when the car is needed most. I have noticed over the past few weeks though sometimes the radio does not come on when I turn the car on. Could this be a default setting to preserve power or is that the culprit? Just a guess

Worth having a quick check around for "silly" things. I've been caught out in the past by faulty/stuck tailgate, door, glovebox etc switches causing a light to be left on. Boot is hard to spot unless you have the seat back folded down.

The list of possible culprits is almost endless. A favorite on older models was the bluetooth module, but on a 2016 it is integrated with the radio so that's not going to be the case. You don't need a mechanic or a main dealer, what you need is an auto-electrician.

There is sadly no magic wand that is going to point you to the fault, only proper logical fault finding and a great deal of time.

Well, another thing is the electric boot strut needs replacing as it grinds its bones off when I open it. Ford quoted £240 just for the part but again as everything is at the moment its at the bottom of the list sadly.

Do you mean all seats folded down or just the very back row?

Not familiar with the Galaxy seat folding, but whatever allows you to peer into the boot with the tailgate shut to see if the light's still on.😀

I had this problem on my 2019 Galaxy. When I bought it I held off for 3 weeks before taking delivery, and it that time I got the garage to get a towbar fitted this caused the battery to drain, when the garage checked the drain on the battery it should by 80mAmp and mine was about 120mAmp, although the relay to the Towbar electrics was changed I no longer trust it so I now disconnect the Towbar electrics when I am not towing and have no further problems, now ofcourse I do not know whether or not you have a towbar or not, I also bought aone of these 12V DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter 2 Way Double Plug Socket Charger Splitter M | eBay

Excellent advice. I wouldn't be going near a main dealer with this kind of issue. An autospark's bread & butter is diagnosing faults like this. Just google for a local one with some decent reviews. Like you said, you don't want to be stranded, and a few hours labour (no pun intended...) to diagnose the fault would be a wise investment...
