Thoughts on a replacement "Whip"

Featured Replies

All,

I hope you're all well!?

So, Sh!tbox is getting me down (1.8TDCI 2008 Focus) It had a leaking injector leak off seal last night (Fixed with my leak of kit seal) Tailgate ajar warning light now on after I opened & closed boot after being stood in the rain watching my son Rugby training & Road tax is due at end of the month

It's got brake judder, 4 buckled wheels, needs an injector or two as it occasionally runs rough at idle or hiccups on light throttle and is genearlly tired.

So, I've seen a 1.5 Ecoboost Focus Titanium X with 90K miles for reasonable money, heated seats/wheel & a few nice options. Also cheaper Road tax & ULEZ.
Do I go have a look & take the plunge, or bide my time and keep saving for a couple more years, clear the mortgage & buy a nicer car?.

Sh!tbox has new rear suspension, something I'm convinced the Titanium will need in the next couple of years (Obvs a Cambelt too!)

Thoughts please...

Why do you need a Shitbox when apparently from your profile you have a nice 2021 Puma ST?

I hadn't updated my Profile. Profile pic remains but I've amended details.

Sh!tbox was Pumas replacement as I begrudged giving Ford Credit a princely sum each month & put the monies towards Mortgage overpayments.

Good decision. I personally haven't paid out 'monthly' for a car in decades. That trap of paying out for what is often the fastest depreciating asset you'll ever have is just a waste, unless you are financially extremely liquid. I've had my 2005 Focus for 5 years now, yes, it's needed the odd repair but has never left me roadside stranded ever. I love the car, and it cost me £1000. (That's pretty much what many pay every 8 weeks for a 'nice' car LOL)

I'm sure you can find plenty of other things to spend monthly money on other than a 'nice' car, but if getting one, keeping up with the Jones and impressing your neighbours is important to you, well, it's your dime...

So,

SWMBO had a lift in my Steed the other week, it did it's usual hiccup but I didn't try accelerate through it and let it splutter a little.

She looked at me all concerned. "You NEED to get a new car" she said, "I've been telling you..." I retorted.

So, I was given the green light to dip into our Joint account and borrow some from there.

Looked at a couple of cars & settled on my new steed. a 430D Gran Coupe (Non X-Drive)

Picked up just over a week ago, so far very happy!  Ideal time of year to get a black car!

IMG_3616.thumb.jpeg.be7cd2291ee1f905071dc47f19257a98.jpegThere’s a lever that feels unused next to the steering wheel, makes a funny clicking sound. Now choose to ignore it.

Drove like miss daisy from Oxford to home (90miles) and avg’d 60mpg. 🤯

That soon diminished after a few people from work drove it.
