Slave Cylinder Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, Looking for some advice, I have a ford focus 2017 st line which I have had from car shop less than 6 months and with just 36k miles on the clock. The Slave Cylinder has gone and they have informed me this is classed as a wear item and is not covered under warranty. Is this correct?

I have got opinions of some other Mechanics and the RAC themselves who came out when it failed and they have all said the same. That this is not a wear item or a serviceable item therefore it should be covered.

I just want to check this before I go and pay the £336 they have quoted.

Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you.

You'll have to check the exact warranty terms in the Car Shop small print.

As the slave cylinder is basically a bearing and a seal, both of those parts will wear over time.  The original manufacturers warranty would have covered it for a short amount of time from new against a manufacturing defect but I'd be surprised if an aftermarket warranty would cover it.  If you do have to pay for it, it's worth checking the clutch wear while the gearbox is off, as that will be much cheaper to replace at the same time, to save having to remove the gearbox again in future.
