Ford fiesta high beam connecter clip broken

Featured Replies

Hi, hope you are well.

Yesterday, I had my bulbs changed by the mechanic and he descovered that one of the high beam connecters clip is broken and as a result, it fully doesnt sit in the place of the headlight and moves slightly when esp when going over bumpy roads.

Is there any way I can get an replacement of the connector? I asked ford and they said they dont sell them and I need to buy a new headlight unit. Also, they said they wont fit the new connector. Is this true? Why would i need a new headlight unit when its just the connector that needs replacing

Hard to tell from photo what is wrong. If it's the plastic clip, you could try bodging with a cable tie (though would have thought the 'mechanic' would have suggested that). Otherwise, source a replacement connector from ebay/scrapyard and get an autospark to connect it...

The clip completely broken off. I tried searching it on ebay and online but I couldnt find anything. Could you help me find one?

The mechanic 'discovered' the broken clip?  That seems like a bit of a coincidence...

Anyway, Ford buy parts like headlights as a complete assembly from their suppliers.  That's why they can't offer connectors separately, the connector would only have been available from Valeo or whoever actually built the lights to sell to Ford.

I can't really see what's happened in that picture but I'm sure it can be bodged somehow, even if you have to glue the bulb in.  Bulbs don't blow that often so it would buy another few months/years before having to replace it.

Most sellers on ebay won't want to cut a connector off of a good light, so your only chance of find a used one is a light that's had the front smashed and is no longer useable.  If the plug has a manufacturing number on it, you may be able to source a brand new one online using that number.

Will this fit on my car?

That's interesting.  It's not listed on the parts catalogue for either Focus or Fiesta so must only have been added since 2016.

Both cars use the same H1 bulb so I guess the connector is probably the same for both.

That is very expensive though.  Can you fit it yourself?  If you'll need to pay someone ~£30 to fit plus the £25 of the part, it would be cheaper to buy a used headlight from ebay or a local breakers yard.

If you have a local Ford parts desk, might be worth calling them with that part number (1766617) to see if it's cheaper direct from the dealer.

Yh, it is expensive indeed. I would need it to be fitted by an mechanic as I have no experience fixing these types of things. If only the seller sold only one of them

The seller replied to me and said that the part will not fit for the fiesta's headlight housing.

Btw, you mentioned that glue can be used to hold it in? What type of glue can I use? Super glue?

You could ask a Ford dealer if they sell a similar one for the Fiesta.  As it's not in the old parts catalogue I can't check that.

I've never used glue there, but if it's just plastic to plastic then super glue should work.  I'm still not exactly sure why it can't be refitted.  A non permanent bodge such as a cable tie would be a better option if there's any chance of doing that.

Good idea 🤣

Yes, but we never got any confirmation on why the mechanic said it wasn't possible before.

As I say, I can't really work out what's happened here.  It may be that there genuinely isn't anywhere to loop a cable tie through.

I really can't see you being stumped over that minor obstacle 😁

Yh I did ask is there anything that can be done and he said no. The only way it can be fixed if I replace the connector

I did ask ford the other day if they sell a similar connector but for the fiesta and they said no. They just said that the only option is to buy a new headlight which costs £450. Thats just a absolute rip off. At this point, im stuck on what to do now because I am unable to find the exact connector and I am unable to find broken headlights for the titainium model for the driver side.

Will it matter if I buy the headlight from a different trim model, pre facelift, headlight without drl as long as it has the same connector (h1 and h7)

Also, is it a must to buy a driver side, or it doesnt matter?

Will it be fine and should work as intended?

Would this be a good buy?

Go to a scrappy and ask if they've got a smashed or damaged same headlamp that you could buy.

Then take the connector off that and fit it to yours

Why believe him?  Maybe I'm too sceptical but I don't believe anyone until I've seen proof for myself.

I don't know if the connectors changed between pre and post facelift.  I didn't even realise they were different between Focus & Fiesta so am not the best person to answer that.  What I can say is that the lamp on ebay was made in 2016 so it definitely wasn't original to a 2010 car.

As you're not able to replace the plug yourself, I'd recommend buying a complete good headlight that matches yours.  Then you can swap the whole thing without any need to pay a mechanic.  You can even sell your damaged headlight on ebay for ~£30 to reclaim some of the costs.

Or contact an auto-electrician and ask if they can source the plugs for these headlights, or suggest another cheap repair for them.
