1.8 tdci DIESEL injector HP pipe union from 'spider ' leak

Featured Replies

Inexperienced young mobile miechanic used force to undo pipe unions to injectors to try bleed fuel system after fuel filter change .

Left one pipe union between 'spider' and injector loose/out of seat and leaking when engine running and under pressure !

Tried tightening it but sensed  it came to end of thread , no more tightening copper pipe needed yet still dripping fuel when engine on .

Question :will  I have to RE.BLEED all the fuel lines and system after replacing pipe and union nuts and washers ? or is this one fuel pipe self bleed ?

Thanks for any suggestion to save me calling another mechanic .

On these cars the low pressure side is very prone to failing to work due to having air in it, but the HP side is fully self bleeding, and should be air free after a few seconds of cranking.

The main problem is to be very, very careful about cleanliness. The internal passages in the injectors are microscopic, and the metal seated valves in the injector will be ruined by the tiniest bits of swarf or grit. With fuel at 22,000PSI, the internal forces are huge.

The metal pipes are not intended to be re-used or re-tightened, the metal deforms to create a perfect seal on the first go, but may not do so again. A lot of people do get away with reuse of pipes, but there is no guarantee. No rubber or plastic seals of any type would withstand this pressure.
