Glow plug wiring diagram 2015 1.5 tdci

Featured Replies

😬Hi all. Further to my problems with the 2 codes I have regarding the glow plugs, I have changed the relay in the engine bay fuse box, checked all the fuses therein and replaced the glow plug control unit below the n/s headlight with a new one. I checked the resistance of the glow plugs via the wiring loom from the connector behind the fuel filter to the glow plugs and got a reading of 0.09 @ 200k setting, can anyone point me in the right direction for a wiring diagram relevant to the wiring for the glow plug units? I am now thinking along the lines of a possible broken wire or such. I have searched and searched and am getting large headaches now.

Thanks all   Barrie

Well it seems there is a pre fuse box on the car. After some research it could be there is a strip of fuses called the power fuse panel in the battery cover and fuse 10 is 60A for glow plug control unit? Looks like further investigation tomorrow.                                                            Regards Barrie

Hi, Just been under the bonnet and sure enough there is a fuse panel on the end of the battery tray behind a plastic cover. The air box has to come out (simples) and cover clips off. There is a row of fuses rated from 100A etc and the last one is 60A for the glow plugs. mine has blown and just ordered one from Ford £8.40 and a spare in case it blows again from the Bay of E. With any luck this may lead to a conclusion? Who knows?

Good to see you've found the fault.  Though I'd be concerned about a 60A fuse blowing.  That kind of power can easily cause a fire in the wrong place.

Hi, Yes I have no idea how long it's been like that, it will be connect the new fuse in line and have my fire extinguisher handy and the positive terminal easily removable as Mrs T  presses the ignition. With any luck all will be well.

Thanks all  Barrie

Hi all, Well an update on the problem. So far so good, checked again to confirm both codes were still relevant and got down to changing the 60a fuse, a bugger to find it originally but there you go. replaced the fuse and checked with meter and confirmed continuity switched  on and nothing went pop so checked again continuity, all good, so started car and checked all again, all good. Been a while now and no codes showing anywhere and the fuse is good. Funny thing though is that the mpg has gone up? don't know why but maybe something to do with DPF regen? maybe the glow plugs have something to do with that I don't know but not complaining.

Cheers all

Barrie

On a modern Diesel engine the glow plugs are not only used during a cold start. These engines are perfectly capable to start (even in cold weather) without the use of glow plugs.

The glow plugs are also used to reduce emissions and are usually active during low and medium engine load. This also has a positive effect on fuel consumption.

Ok, that’s nice to know it’s all about saving money, I taxed the car last week so I got another year free although not due till June 😁👌regards
