Steering

Featured Replies

Evening people .

My sax is due for its mot back end of November at the moment it's going to fail with flying colours I think .

Main issue I am having at the moment is the steering. I know I need the wheels realignment doing.

However I have a traction control light on when on fordscan it comes up a cause with ABS and powersteering angle sensor.

When I try to use forscan to do a check on the power steering angle sensor it automatically abborts it.

Is it looking like I need a new one ? Or could I have something more sinister going on ?

Thanks

If it were me, I'd try to solve the ABS fault code first (to pass MOT, both of these faults will need to be fixed?)
Please post the exact fault codes and information from Forscan.
It may be that there is a fault with wiring/clockspring/steering angle sensor/etc. but I have no experience of that however I do recall seeing something about it but can't recall where at the moment.

Also, how bad is the alignment out, how do you know and was there any accident damage?

Hi sheares sorry I haven't logged in for a while.

When I got the car I done a independent check and no flags for any previous accidents, that been said I also checked over car and is no signs of any damage or previous repairs

As for the alignment I noticed I was getting uneven worn tyres . When I'm going higher speed 50/70 the steering wheel vibrates slightly and I can feel vibrations through the pedals. If I let go of the steering wheel it pulls the car to the right quite a lot

Thanks

Sounds like you definitely need the alignment check (perhaps 4 wheel), check that steering wheel alignment is correct when wheels are straight ahead and wheels balanced/new tyres if necessary?

Still suggest the fault codes (what exactly is given?) need to be resolved especially relevant to ABS sensors/steering angle sensor etc are involved but you'll have to get the basics right first to ensure the correct sensor readings are being supplied  to ABS/TC systems etc and make any adjustments/checks before any expensive replacements?

I'm taking it down tomorrow to get alignment done.

Then on Wednesday I will be doing some bits and bobs on it so I'll see what codes come up and get back to you.

Looking round online it came up that bad alignment can cause issues with traction control etc. I'm not expecting it to be that easy.

I'll see if it let's me check the angle sensor on forscan before I start checking abs and replace parts that need replacing
