2020 Escape key fob only half functional

Featured Replies

I'm having an odd issue with a new key fob for my 2020 Escape - I can lock/unlock/remote start the vehicle using the fob's buttons, but grabbing the handle doesn't unlock the door. Remote start works, but the LED on the fob flashed red, as though the vehicle didn't start, but it does start fine.

This is an OEM Ford fob, and the dealer has programmed it twice. I only have one other fob (that functions normally), so I don't believe I can program it myself since I understand that that would require two working fobs to program a third.

Anyone have any clue what might be causing this issue, and what the fix is?

Vehicles battery is below threshold for keyless entry to work. It has been disabled to conserve the battery.

Either replace the vehicle battery (charge it fully before fitting) or charge your battery for at least 12 hours. Remember to connect the negative lead to the chassis earth point and not to the battery negative.

The odd thing is that my other fob works fine - keyless entry is functional. It's just the new fob that isn't working correctly, and I have put a fresh battery in it.

Then in that case the new fob is either faulty or not fully programmed.
