Recommendations: Ford Focus Estate Mk4

Featured Replies

Hi. I was hoping I can pick some of your brains about my next focus purchase, please!

I currently have A 2012 focus estate mk3. It’s been a great car. Reliable. Reasonable to maintain and repair. We’re looking for an upgrade to more modern version mk4. It’s all ecoboost now 1.0 or 1.5 diesels. I would like an automatic this time. Ive got my sights set on a STLine X auto model. But I’ve seen some mixed reviews on here and given my budget I’m looking at 2 or 3 years old with up to 40k miles.

if anyone has any advice or views on what to look out for or avoid I would be extremely grateful! I couldn’t quite find anything on here that was specific area for me to review.

Thank you 🙏

Mike

I've got a mk4 late 2019 Focus Vignale estate with the 1.5 ecoboost 3 cylinder, 182bhp with a manual box.  You won't see many of them nearly all are 1 lire or phev.

It's a lovely drive, very practical size, not overly large, pretty nippy but equally a lazy, comfortable drive.  Don't notice its an estate but you can tell if loaded up. I had a Mk3 hatch before with a 1.5 182 engine 4 cylinder.  The Mk4 pulls from much lower revs, very responsive and overall feels a lot better built and upmarket. Only issues so far, pan roof occasionally bounces open when closing, the Vignale wheels are losing some chrome, and an issue has developed with the sat nav/emergency call.  I'm just potentially looking around at changing it, but nothing pushed my buttons yet. Shame the petrol Kuga is so slow in comparison.

Point of order.

All EcoBoost engines are PETROL

All EcoBlue engines are DIESEL

That said, the only engine I would recommend is the 1.5 EcoBlue

Stay a million miles away from a 1.0 EcoBoost.
