New steering pump

Featured Replies

Fitted the new steering pump, very easy to do, old pump was stuffed.

I doubt if the fluid had been changed in 18 years, it was grey & more like cough syrup, it was very thick.

It would appear the pump was just running, although pumping (just) there was no pressure it was just running around in static fluid.

On inspection of the reservoir, the internal strainer was blind which would also point to poor priming of the pump, I would think the pump may have been running hot.

I've cleaned everything that came off, I'll manually prime the system with fresh fluid, but not back into the reservoir, I'll just go direct into a bottle until it's all clear & cherry red.

I think it's a yearly job just to maintain the system & stop any build up in the strainer.

I checked the old pump with high pressure water, more water came out before the pulley started to move, hence it was knackered.
