wet belt engine / recall issues 2019 manual STLINE

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anyone has seen any movement in the UK about engine recalls on the ecoboost 1.0. I am aware there was a major recall in the UK but nothing yet in the UK. I have also seen that the recall is only some auto models.

What is the current situation on this and is my model at risk at all from any of the current known issues, its only done 21k at the moment though and I change the oil/filters yearly just to be safe.

The reason I ask as i've just had to spent £1000 on my aircon which rusted out, pipes perished and siezed so they had to pull a lot of it out, just worried this car is going to get even more expensive.

Recall US only as far as we knoew. Looks as if you are doing the right things maintenance -wise.

Ford's recent revision to their goodwill policy may give some comfort:

Hi,

There isn't  a recall for the wetbelt engine in the UK but Ford have changed their stance on repairing wetbelt engines within the past few months.  Effectively now as long as the car is less than 10 years old with full service history then they will repair or replace the engine if the belt fails.  (So far, we haven't had any members go through this process to confirm how easy it is in reality).

If you have a 2019 Ecosport, that will still use the old wetbelt engine and be at risk of wetbelt degradation.

Thanks all for the info, does the service history have to be at ford though as I use my local as its out of warranty, services also state every 2 years for this car (was advised by my garage)

It does confirm that on the letter posted above, they will now allow independent servicing and even up to 3 months past the service schedule date.  2 yearly servicing is correct for these.  (Though many people choose to switch to yearly for peace of mind).

Yes, as Tom mentioned current official Ford recommendation is 18,000 miles/2 years. This was changed from the previous annual recommendation at the time the Mk 8 Fiesta appeared.

As we were unable to find any evidence of a change to the engine or oil specification to justify** this many owners stuck with 12 monthly changes. I certainly did with my 1.0.

(** Other than the oil monitoring system which in theory should alert you if an earlier oil change is needed.)

NB: You have posted in the Escort forum, rather than the Ecosport forum, hopefully admin may be able to move it.
