Mega power steering

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, very happy to say, Fred now has power steering & new alternator fitted & all working well

We "Manually" bled off the power steering which emptied the remaining "Gloop" from the rack.

The return line (low pressure) was directed to an empty vessel untill cherry red, I wanted to remove as much off the 19 year old fluid as possible.

The steering at this point although manual was very easy & getting better, I did have the front of the car off the ground, which allowed better Access to chech for leaks.

After 5 minutes the fluid was very red, we didn't rush this stage as we didn't want airlocks, reconnected the lines, reconnected the battery, I always go through 2 passes of allowing the lights on the cluster to go off, clutch down & first turn every time.

Topped up the PSF, my wife was incharge of the steering wheel, she could turn the wheel with her little finger, you could hear the pump click on full lock, so all internal valves working well, fluid is flowing around the system & still cherry red.

I'll change the fluid again in the spring, it will pick up some residual "Gloop", & the strainer will need cleaning again.

No whining alternator, all very quiet, battery charging well, I put the system on load, all good.
