ford fusion 2008 / 1.4L reverse light switch replacement

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I need to change my ford fusion 2008 / 1.4L reverse light switch.

would you have a picture or diagram of where I can find it.

And, is it easy to change ?

Thankyou guys.

Very easy to replace. on front of gearbox.

I think it's the one to the bottom left of the picture.

Others will correct me if i am wrong...

Been a while since i removed mine !

And to confirm the switch is at fault, remove connector and temporarily short out the two connections

with ignition on, reverse light/s should appear.

Yes the reverse lights stop working, so I read it could be the switch, I don’t know if there any fuses to check first.

do I have to jack up the car to get to the switch.

Then to confirm the switch is at fault, remove connector and temporarily short out the two connections

How do I short out the two connectors to check?

thankyou guys

The car doesn't need to be jacked up.  You can just remove the air intake pipe to reach down from above.

You can short the connector pins by opening up a paperclip and sticking each end into the plug pins to create a loop that bypasses the switch.

Fusion rear light clusters are prone to water ingress and can mask other issues such as a faulty reverse switch.

As Tom says use a paperclip for example, a switch is just an incidental short circuit.

Thanks guys for your support helping this novice.

i couldn’t see anything looking from the engine,

I popped my head underneath and found a wire hanging, and what I think I was looking for, with a broken spring and ball bearing on the ground and leaking oil.

ive enclosed some photos , if you can help me.

Well you found the switch, or what's left of it 🤣

The oil leak seems to be unrelated to the switch problem.

That hole is where the switch fits and will be the cause of the oil leak.

oh dear, not good.

Replace switch, select car into reverse before fitting, as i recall i had a problem when refitting mine ?

It would be wise to replace gear oil to be safe, draining off whats left in there - as you dont know what the level is currently.

Drain and refill is behind the plastic cover as in the pic, this is the 1.4 tdci engine / box btw.

Bottom is drain obviously and top is fill, look at specs on whats required and quantity, freds post other day will cover it.

Actually,  looking at this.... i wonder how long this has been pi ss ing out oil for ?

If a while you are lucky gear box hasn't run dry

Manual gearbox oil isn't pressurised.  Although that leak looks bad, I doubt the level has dropped by much at all.
