electrical problem

Featured Replies

Hi every one.

after my smax was in ford recently for recall updates ( ecu updates) i have had various faults showing on the dashboard, oil change required, adaptive headlights malfunction, power steering fault, check braking system, see manual etc etc.

this has slowly got worse and can take over 5 minutes to start the horn even sounded the last time i started it.

Ford have the car ( the second time ) and say they can find nothing to cause this issue. I wonder if any members have had this problem.

i love this car, it has only done 105000 kilometers

thank you in advance

Adrian

I'd say they have let the battery run low and it needs fully charging and all the faults clearing (probably needs a new battery TBH)

Also, you need to know what modules were updated, because sometimes that can cause conflicts, especially if they didn't reset the modules or make sure the configuration is still correct after updating

Thank you for your prompt reply Dave.

The battery is only a year old, but cant say for sure it was the correct battery for the car!! i have seen many people have simular faults to this.

I aslo wonder if the ECU could be at fault.

Hi Dave.

No idea what was updated on the ecu, or if it was re configered!! My step son checked for fault codes and nothing came up, just showing all good.

this is the second week, Ford have had the car and they are talking to the top ford guy in the country, to sort the problem out!!

Was it showing any faults before you took it in for the recall/reflash?

What year is the car ?

Your profile says it's both a 2015 and a 2025 ????

Sorry the car is 2015

Hi Dave

The faults only started after Ford took it for the updates.

Rear suspension bolts

Front brake hoses

Drivers airbag

Battery connector

ECU update

Prior to that the car had oil/filter change, brake fluid change, diesel filter change, Transmision fluid/filter change and timing belt/water pump change and was driving like a new car!!

Thanks.

Then all you have to say to them is that you'll only accept the car back in the same condition that it came in with👍

Hi Dave i will ask my stepson to ask Ford what modules they updated/played with!!

Thank you for that Dave, i believe my Stepson has told them that, after the first time they checked the car and said there was nothing wrong. one hours labour charge for that!!

Update on Smax

Hi all.  after being in Ford garage for fault finding to my Smax ( 3 weeks tomorrow ) They have found the fault.

when it went into ford a few weeks ago for an ECU update, They think the upate was currupt!! or the update was not installed correctly!!

However the ECU has had the latest upadte and all seems well.  Ford have said to let them know, if that has cured the Problem!!! heres hoping

and a big thank you to Dave, for his advice!!
