Auto Stop / Start

My Ford Puma ST 2021 auto stop/start is not functioning properly. Constantly states engine is charging?

Any ideas please?

Of course it's not. It was designed never to work, it's purely a gimmick to get the car through the emissions test and get type approval.

Have a search of the forum and read the 1487+  threads on the subject.

I've stopped even bothering to turn it off. It's only worked twice this year anyway.😀

Twice?? That's almost fully functional 😂

Often makes me chuckle on here when people complain about it not working and also say they turn it off every drive...seems a lot of hassle to be going to for something that they say doesn't work anyway.

.....not to mention the strain on your finger😀

In my Puma ST its works properly,if you do mostly city driving and short trips it turn off to avoid  drain the battery,if you do a 100 mile trip or so it starts working fine again

As a kid, did you never get told off for flicking a room lighting switch on/off, on/off, on/off just for fun?? It puts strain on the switch, and the light bulb, shortening both their lives.

Stop/start - same principal. It can't be doing the engine any good long term by turning the darn thing on/off at random. Once it's running, much better to leave it alone. Ford were absolute eejits to develop such a system, even if it did get them out of a hole for an emission test...

Interesting thought.  By that logic, you must be going through indicator bulbs much more frequently than any other bulb?

Of course, if I was a BMW driver, it would make no difference at all to the indicator bulb longevity 😂

Is your 12 volt battery fully charged, if it’s original battery it probably needs replacing

The OP hasn't been back for a few weeks now.

The rate this question comes up we probaly need an "Auto Stop/Start" Forum all of its own.

Always remember that if you disable stop/start with an automatic gearbox it means you are still in drive mode while stationary and engine running, is that good for gearbox?

That isn't true.  On a dual clutch gearbox the clutches are completely disengaged once you come to a complete stop.

Okay, that’s why I put “?” Because I wasn’t sure 🤔
