About to get a Econoline E350 with a check engine light

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,
I just joined the forum.
I wanted to ask because im about to get a Econoline E350 XLT Super Duty 2006 that has a check engine light.
The previous owner told me he took it a mechanic and the computer said some error code about the throttle body.

He told me he changed the throttle body (has the old part) and the error remained.
Some times he told me it goes into "limp mode" and cuts the power? Then he just restarts the car.
Its a van he used to travel in Chile and Argentina so the van is there and im about to go there.
Besides taking to a mechanic there, i wanted to order some obd scanner to use with forscan so i could at least clear the code and inspect it abit.
I was looking at the vLinker that the forscan site recommends. I was thinking to get one that is good to use with the power of the forscan tool.
So i was thing to get a wired one and maybe a Bluetooth one to be able to stuff with my phone ?
what would you recommed.

Thanks for your time

If you don't want to do Programming then one of the recommended Bluetooth ones will work with your Laptop as well as your Phone, not quite as fast though.

A Wired one is better to use with the Windows version of FORScan and you can use it with some Phones with an OTG Adaptor although it is not recommended.

I don't know anything about these at all, but..................

That sounds very much like the common cluster solder issues that we see on Focus & C-Max over here. And it's the right age too.

If you are getting lots communications faults then suspect the cluster solders

Thanks for your responses. I also found this post i dont know if it related: https://www.justanswer.com/ford/e8cos-2005-e350-5-4-p2107-p2110-customer-replaced-throttle-body.html

So if get just the wired vLinker will i be able to go into forscan and clear the limp mode or the code ?

With a Wired or Wireless Adaptor and either version of FORScan you will be able to clear any Fault Codes but they will come back if the problem that was causing the Codes has not been fixed.

If the Throttle Body is replaced you may need to do a Reset Procedure to get the Engine running smoothly again.

Hey thanks for the responce. How should i do this reset procedure.
I just arrived to the van and plugged in the vLink and opened forscan. I have attached the DCT log.
The key points are (chat gpt provided these when uploaded the log):

Key Issues:

  1. P0171 (System Too Lean - Bank 1) & P0174 (System Too Lean - Bank 2):

    • Cause: The engine is running lean (too much air and not enough fuel) on both banks. Common causes include:
      • Low fuel pressure (fuel pump or clogged fuel filter).
      • Vacuum leaks in the intake manifold or hoses.
      • Faulty oxygen sensors (HO2S11 and HO2S21 circuits).
      • Dirty or obstructed fuel injectors.
      • Exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors.
    • Action: Start with inspecting for vacuum leaks and fuel pressure issues. Ensure the fuel filter is not clogged and check the EVAP purge solenoid and fuel injectors.
  2. P2107 (Throttle Actuator Control Module Processor) & P2110 (Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Limited RPM):

    • Cause: These codes indicate a fault in the throttle actuator control system. The vehicle is likely entering limp mode as a safety measure.
      • The throttle body may need cleaning or replacement.
      • The throttle position sensor or wiring could be faulty.
      • A problem with the PCM (unlikely but possible).
    • Action: Inspect and clean the throttle body. Check the wiring and connectors for damage. If unresolved, test the throttle actuator and PCM.

Also tomorrow i will probably take if for a general inspection to this mechanic:

If there is anything specific i should ask him.
