Powershift gearbox replaced, Continue to drive it?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I own a 2012 MK3 Focus 1.6 Zetec, it has the Powershift gearbox. The gearbox was replaced a few years back under warranty once it went faulty, the car was driven for say another 1000-2000 miles before being SORN'd off the road for 4 years.

As these gearboxes are prone to issues and were recommended to avoid, the question is, after the gearbox was replaced will it go faulty again? or am I better off getting rid of the car?

Anyone been in this sitation where it was replaced and continued to drive it?

Would anyone know the average mileage of a 6DCT250 will last between fixes?

This may be a dual WET  clutch model???:
https://go4trans.com/transmission/6dct250/

Which I'm unsure about, I think the site may have that bit wrong?

The dry clutch units have really given this transmission its bad name although there are known issues with the wet clutch units (of course!) especially if it hasn't had the oil and filter changes.

This is assuming it is similar to the DCT450 unit which we have. If it is the dry clutch unit ignore my comments!

Whilst it will depend on servicing and the treatment it has had, all I can say is that we have driven 117k miles and, for the moment, it is like new - your mileage may differ so I can only suggest checking for any fault codes (Forscan) and changing fluid and filter to the correct procedure then going from there, only if WET  clutch as I know nothing significant about dry units - just trying to help.

Still recommending Westway Lubricants on eBay for any oil and filter kits.

Just service and drive it?

Edit: the site above has DCT450 parts picture so very dubious!
