continuous voltage to Focus MK4

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I want to update a module using Forscan. Since this can be a lengthy process, I want to maintain a continuous power supply without draining the battery. I do have a battery charger, but I don’t think it provides a constant enough voltage. What device do I need for this?

A battery charger is the only device you could use for this.

As long as it's a modern 'smart' charger it'll maintain a steady enough voltage without overcharging.

okay thanks that explains why I couldn't find some other device for it, I'll give it a go then

....if you want to update a late spec range rover you need a power supply capable of 120 amps !!!!

dealers programming should have a power supply the manu reccos - for instance BMW dealer software is designed not to to operate unless a constant 15V is fed to the car

many battery chargers are very low amp - with the key on blower and lights off - most modern stuff is eating > 12 amps  - my car's at 37 amps key on everything off

of course adding 4 amps is much better than nothing and the wires need to go to the specific connection points the manu says - NEVER go direct to the battery posts as the charger has no idea what the cars eating - if you go via specific points it can understand the current drain and try to cope

and of course before the work fully charge the battery for 48hrs
