Unsure where this bolt goes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just finished changing the belts on my car so as you can imagine quite a lot of parts have been removed. Throughout I wrote down where each bolt came from which helped with reassembly. My other half kindly did some of this at one point and today found one bolt unlabelled (of course I’m passing the buck here)

i appreciate this is a ridiculously long shot but has anyone got any idea where this might be from?

I initially thought it looked like a sump bolt but was it isn’t nor is it a timing cover one so that excludes those. will have a proper look tomorrow but thought I’d try my luck and see if anyone had any ideas.

thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply. As in one of the three bolts on the pulley? They are all in, unless you mean something else?

What size socket fits it?

It fits a 10

i measured it at approx m6x16mm. trawled through all the sections on SSG Asia part finder thing and spent about 4 hours looking on the car today but still can’t find it. It’s definitely not a timing cover or sump bolt which makes me less worried but still far from ideal

Which exact engine do you have ?  Assuming 1.0 3 cylinder Fox, but power ?

Ah, yes, that lives right inside the timing cover and so the whole thing needs to come back off. Just kidding...

Unofix's guess is a good one, and indeed I was going to say that a bolt of that size (only 16mm in length) is likely holding a cover/plate-type item i.e. something just a few mm thick, if that helps. I always remind myself that if something is held on by a single bolt then its omission means that thing will be very clearly not fixed in place. The fact you're not seeing such a thing suggests it is one of a set of bolts in which case the others will, I am sure, cope in its absence. Until they don't, but of course then you'll be alerted to exactly where it came from so it's a win-win either way... 🙂

I thought this bolt too! And it was on my cardboard template where I had taped all bolts in the same section as the heat shield so was very surprised to see a bolt already there. However I only loosened the heat shields to have a peek rather than fully removing so perhaps there’s something I’m not able to see. Thanks for the help!

The heart sink I felt reading the first few words of that 😂😭 I agree I think it will be fine and I’m glad it’s just the one bolt it’s more just out of annoyance of the house I’ve spent looking that are bothering me! Thanks for the help 🙏🏼

Did you take any of the vacuum pipes off whilst charging the belts?

As in the vacuum pump? I took that off and cleaned out the little filter in there but I’m confident it wasn’t one of the 3 bolts for this, they were a bit smaller and never made it onto the cardboard template as I only had it off for 10 mins

Yes follow the pipes coming out of the vacuum pump it looks like it may be used to secure them in place close to the pump.

Here's two more to check if not already done so:

Thanks for both of these. I also had these narrowed down from ssg asia site and despite following the landmarks on the diagram I couldn’t for the life of me find them on the car even with shoving a camera with a light in there so eventually gave up, mainly because I didn’t recall taking bolts from there, very confident of that at least for the second pic. Will have a look again tomorrow, thanks again for this
