Sat nav radio ford focus 59plate

Featured Replies

Hi. I had an issue with my instrument cluster lights not turning off and draining the battery. I took it to ford and they said I need a new instrument cluster costing £1200. Another garage found out it was the something to do with the Bluetooth or the aerial antenna or something like that. Anyway if the satnav unit was unplugged it wouldn’t drain the battery anymore so I just left it like it was. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this and found a way round it.  A you disconnect the blue tooth or something? Picture below of what the unit looks like. Any help would be much appreciated

Yes it's a common fault on older models with the separate Bluetooth module. You can either just unplug it and live without Bluetooth, or you can find a replacement module on eBay usually for £20 or less. They are just plug and play, no codes or programming needed.

The usual location of the Bluetooth module is up behind the glovebox, so you normally have to remove that to be able to reach it. Not a difficult job and takes less than an hour.

That’s great. Thank you. I’ll take a look in the morning.

Sure doesn't look like it's there.

Do you know the production date of your car ? If not just post the VIN and I can get it from the build sheet.

Your radio/head unit may have the Bluetooth module built in.

Can I just unplug it. I think the screw is at the top. I’d have to take the whole dash off

Yes you can just unplug it. 👍

Of course if you want Bluetooth to work again you will need to get a replacement.

If the OP does get a replacement unit, rather than removing the 'whole dash' to access the mounting screw, if it were, me, great candidate for a bodge. Simply cut the exposed mounting bolt off, and stick new unit on top of old with some strong double sided foam tape! 😀 (or even a cable tie)

Got the wires out. Plugged the satnav/radio unit back in. Success. It’s not relaying with the instrument cluster anymore 🥳 thanks for your help with that.

It is possible to remove the Bluetooth module without major dash dismantling.

Removed mine years ago, just can’t remember how sorry but I’m sure it was just a nut or bolt holding it in place

Yes, it just takes a little time.

You can grip the end of the bolt thread with MoleGrips and loosen the bolt. Once it's loose then you can just unscrew it with your fingers. Just take care not to crush the screw threads with the MoleGrips or it will be difficult to unscrew.

Bit of digging suggests you can remove the bracket the module is bolted to, held on with a couple of Torx screws

or try this

Cracked it! I managed to get the module off the bracket by gently bending the bracket downwards so I could fit a T25 behind, 20 minutes and a lot of swearing later, it was out!

My old module is buried in the big box full of things I’ve taken off the car so can’t easily check if theres a bracket with the module or not
