If I put the heating on it only cold air comes out, after 5 minutes hot air will come out when on high, if I enable the setting for clearing the wind screens it appears to be piping hot air straight away though.

The blower appears to be stronger on the left hand vent in the centre console than the right hand vent. 

Just recently had my car serviced but don't want to point fingers. any ideas what could be causing this.

    I have the same but opposite problem at summer time.

     When i switch on the blower (with no AC on, just atmospheric air from outside) it blows hot air when the engine is warm enough and i do not know the reason. All the cars i had before never had such a problem. I thought that i have done something wrong but now i know that it needs to be checked in the dealership (FORD).

    As for your problem i suppose that your electronic regulator that controls the positions of the ventilation holes might has a malfunction.
