wet belt dilemma

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm a new member apologies if this is has been posted before but I feel my problem may be unique.

I've been advised by Ford care they will completely rebuild my engine free of charge if my engine has completely seized up due to the common wet belt issue.

I've been advised by 2 mechanics that my wet belt is gone but the car still moves. It has all the classic signs of the wet belt going i.e. oil pressure warning on dash, engine management light on.

My car is currently in the car park at my local ford service centre but is not booked in to be inspected.

My query  is if I book the car for repair and its not fully seized and only partially damaged ford  care  said I  would be liable to pay the inspection fee and the full repair for the wet belt,  but what happens if i drive  drive a mile down the street and the engine seizes they would pay for the full engine replacement.

Further to this the repair centre said they would only do it free if I had the full service history with the invoices from the garages  to back this up but ford care said I only needed the service history stamped and my V5 without the invoices

hope this makes sense and has any one had this experience

cheers

If the engine is seized it is scrap.

If you have used the car only very slightly with the low oil pressure warning illuminated it won't be much cop either.

No matter what the damage is, the car is either covered by warranty or belt recall or not.

The only option is to get the vehicle towed to a dealer for investigation

But, be warned, if you've driven it a lot with low oil pressure warning on the engine will be scrap.

Damage starts at the rear and works it's way to the front

It doesn't matter who says what - get both/all parties involved to confirm their promises in writing.

(I believe in law now, an official email is as good as a letter, but do check current advice.)

Only then would I get anyone to do anything.

Since the 'new' belt goodwill guidance was released, you should not need invoices any more.  That was the case before this new guidance was released.

The belt hasn't totally failed if the engine still runs.  It's just failing at the moment.  However, the wording is 'wet belt issues' and 'engine concern relating to wetbelt'.  There is nothing that says the belt has to have totally failed to be eligible for the goodwill replacement.

For some reason I can never find that image online when I need it.  Just downloaded it for future reference!

Yeah, I did that as the topic seems to come up fairly often for some reason!😀

Of course it's a 100% real, this is the FOC, not the BBC 😉

Yes, it's real.  It was sent around the dealer network.  It wasn't meant for customers to see so you won't find a 'proper' source for it.

I feel sorry for anyone that buyed a motor with a wet belt system . Goes to show that most older cars are just designed  better than newer cars . They might be shiny on the outside
