Headlight vent

Featured Replies

Good morning all.

I have a MK8 Fiseta ST and the drivers LED headlight appears to get condensation in it, especially during the last bout of cold weather. I did read somewhere that there is a vent somewhere on the back of the unit which can become blocked thus allowing moisture to form. Does anyone know where this vent is? I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find it.

Many thanks

Make sure the bulb caps are fitted correctly.

Drop a sachet of silica gel in the headlamp too

All I can see on the back is the electrical connection for the lights themselves and nothing else. There are no bulb caps. Apparently LED lights have a vent in them to allow the air to circulate because of the heat they generate.

I've done it again!!!!

Oh, they're LEDs sorry.

My LEDS steam up occasionally on my X2, it soon goes.

That's the second time in 2 days someone said LEDs get hot. When did they start doing that? I thought with the much lower power consumption, they actually ran much cooler, indeed with many commenting on they don't even warm up enough to melt snow off the  lens?

It is not abnormal for Headlights to get Condensation when the climatic conditions are right but normally it is both of them at the same time. If the car is not parked where one is shaded then I do think you have a problem.

My bad. I did see another post on some other forum that said it wasn't true, urban myth??

Today hasn't been to bad. The sun is out today here so car has been parked in the sun. There is a tiny bit but nothing to really worry about. I thought water had got into the unit but there is no water sitting in the bottom. Hopefully once it warms up and summer arrives it should be ok
