Hi guys and gals. Was thinking of swapping my boot lid as mine is dented. First thing is it tricky and I’m guessing my key won’t work unless i swap the lock etc over. Any help is appreciated. Tia

Thanks for your informative response. I had read on this forum I wouldn’t need to. But I couldn’t understand why that would be the case.

You have a 2014 Fiesta is that correct ?

Does the tailgate have a lock barrel fitted? If yes then you will need to change the barrel. If there is no lock barrel fitted on the tailgate then there is nothing to change.

Yes a 2014 fiesta. No just a button above the number plate and the key fob has a button that opens the boot

The difficult part about the swap is trying to hold the tailgate while you remove and refit the hinges and struts.  Much easier with two people if you can find an assistant.

Also not sure which side the loom connects on a Mk7.  Make sure you unplug it before removing the hinges.

The wiring and lock assy may not need swapping if it's from the same spec car.  The keyfob button does not connect direct to the boot.  It uses the same radio signal as the normal unlock, which goes to the key module or the BCM, then that module sends a signal to the boot latch to unlock.  The lock itself isn't coded to anything.
