I just purchased a second hand Ford Focus and when I use the Ford UK sync update page using the VIN number, it has a lower version listed than what I currently have installed. The website say I have 3.0 but the car says 3.4. the current build installed, I would like to update. Does this make sense to anyone? 

 

After updating a sync system or maps it will create a file on the pendrive you have used.  Same pendrive need to be connected back to your computer and Ford website will scan it for this specific file.

I think previous owner never updated that with Ford website or downloaded sync 3.4 from elsewhere like cyanlabs.net for example 

 

Someone has used cyanlabs or manually updated to Sync 3.4. You can’t use the Ford website as you don’t have a supported build for your vin.

with all these features ford specifically didn't want you to know about - as they were for the model after yours

I would study info in that link above and see if you can further update to the Sync 3.4 23188 update

with 396,000 people already having done it - is it such a bad idea....
