Ford Focus 2019 1L eco boost

I've Just purchased a 1 Litre Eco Boos Focus. 

It's on a 69 plate and was an ex mobility car, with a full service and MOT history with the little mileage it has done. Just over 2k. I have a 3 year warranty with it, but getting concerned about the wet belt issue  

I've been advised that as long as it's serviced regularly, correctly and on time is essential,  but can anyone else advise. 



2k miles is extremely low.  I would be concerned about the belt having sat for long periods in acidic oil without moving.  I take it it's only had 2 oil changes so far, one every 2 years?

It should be checked.

As its a mk 4 focus on 69 plate, it will be chain driven and not a wet belt. Ford revised the 1.0 for the mk4 and is a much better engine.

It still has a wet belt for the oil pump.

But wasn't it the timing belt that gave the early 1.0 the problems with it disintegrating 🤷‍♂️

It would be pure guesswork to figure out if it was just the timing belt that was disintegrating or were both belts falling to bits ?

The problem is when the timing belt snaps the engine is instantly turned in to a pile of scrap.

If the problem is the belts (either or both) start to disintegrate then the oil pick-up becomes blocked and the engine is starved of oil. If caught quick enough the engine can sometimes be saved, but often the bits of belt get stuck in the oil ways and become impossible to completely clear.

Even if there is the chain instead of the timing belt, after 10 years if all works fine...and I'm not so confident, you have to change the oil belt, which is located before the chain. So when it comes the time for oil belt change you are forced to change the chain as well. And that is very expensive, more over Ford indicates the cost of the change for all the engines, exception for the ecoboost, and that is not correct.

What a poor design is it? Why Ford decided to let the wetted oil belt?

Agree it is not nice and ford doesn't seem to care.

But to be fair other manufacturers made models with wetbelts.
