Rotary dial stay in neutral

Featured Replies

I’m sure this has been asked before but I’m in a bind here…. My 2020 focus active x 1.5 tdci will turn over but not fire up when trying to start. The car needs to be recovered so my question is how do you put the car in neutral in order to load it onto a recovery truck? It is a 7 speed auto with a rotary dial prnd with an L in the middle if that helps

Sounds like another one with a snapped cam chain.

This is the procedure for staying in neutral.  But it makes clear that it shouldn't be towed in neutral.  I suspect the recovery guy should use a couple of dollies under the front wheels if possible.

Stay in Neutral Mode
Use this feature to keep your vehicle in neutral (N) when you exit the vehicle.
Note:   This feature does not function if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Put your vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode when entering an automatic car wash. Failure to follow this instruction could result in vehicle damage not covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Do not tow your vehicle in Stay in Neutral mode.
To enter Stay in Neutral mode, do the following:
  1. Bring your vehicle to a complete standstill.
  1. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  1. Shift into neutral (N).
Note:   A message appears in the information display.
  1. Press the manual (M) button.
Note:   A confirmation message appears in the information display when your vehicle has entered Stay in Neutral mode.
  1. Release the brake pedal.
  1. Switch the ignition off.
The transmission returns to park (P) if the vehicle battery charge is low.
Note:   Prolonged use of the Stay in Neutral mode could cause the vehicle battery to run out of charge.
To exit Stay in Neutral mode, press the brake pedal and shift into park (P), or start the engine and shift into drive (D) or reverse (R).
