Service Engine Now & Loss of Power

Featured Replies

Hello!

I'm unsure where else to go with this as no garages around me will take me and during this time of year waits are around 4 - 6 weeks to get seen (apart from one garage near me which I'll be taking back once I know more)

So basically, I'm running into a problem where the car drives perfectly fine, but at random points, I get a loss of power, the car slows down and the "service engine now" light appears, along with traction control or stability light (I don't remember which) and also hill start assist disabling itself. On Sunday just gone, I drove the car for around 1 hour and 30 minutes until this happened along, the motorway and town roads so multiple gears and speeds. around 20 minutes before I got home the car hit me with the "service engine now" lost power and the above errors, I pulled over and waited with the car off and turned it back on, but the error came back. I forced the car to drive (It didn't exactly like it but I was only 5 minutes from my garage so I drove it there and left overnight) came back this morning and they said it was all fine and they couldn't see any issues.

I drove it around 20 minutes and boom, happened again, I pulled over, turned it off, switched it back on and it worked fine this time. drive another 20 mins home this time and it did it 2 mins from my house, I stopped, turned the engine off and then straight back on and it was fine again. the only consistent thing I noticed on the last time was I came to a sudden break as another come was oncoming and it was a country road, I took off and it happened 10 seconds later.

I am not a car person, so I don't know a lot but I did have my fuel injectors replaced last year when this issue happened except then I couldn't drive the car at all and had to be towed, whereas this time I managed to force the car to drive, it didn't like it but I got there. other garages have said the following so I don't know what to take.

Bad Fuel

EGR valve?

Bad fuel injector again

I'm just a little lost and not sure what to do with it anymore, I know I could buy a fault reader so I can give that to the garage as its intermittent so if anyone has any suggestions for them I could buy one! I don't want to be going on these long drives and it happening away from home.

Loss power most possibly means that cars sets into safe mode.

If you had a diagnostic tool you could read if and which error code it has stored.

You could use forscan or more simply torque pro.

Torque pro is simpler to get and use.

Forscan perhaps can show error codes stored that torque pro and others perhaps can't show and provide more details.

I should add, when I say loss of power, the car sometimes has to come to a complete stop before I can even continue driving, not even just "limp mode", the shakes a little from the engine and just does not feel right, when I have come to a stop and the issue still occurs, I can feel the car shaking a lot more than it should.

Requires to be checked.

It could be anything.

So it stops on its own completely or it goes very slowly not allowing to speed up?

From the few times it has happened, sometimes I can speed back up if I change gears and give it enough power, other times I'm just forced to pull over as I feel the car is shaking and or behaving very aggressively. I'm unsure whether to take it to the garage and just ask them to check the injectors & EGR valve as they're seemingly the only things I can think of or keep seeing online. but yeah you're right it could be anything but the garage I've been taking it to is just not helpful enough, but annoyingly the only one I can take it to right now.

Most importantly if there are any error codes they should be red so that at least you should know what is this about.

When that happened to mine the cause was the turbo solenoid.

You could try as many recommend in this forum forscan.

You can try it yourself following the necessary steps.

why not start posting the EXACT spec of the car - engine type size transmission
the mileage
the service history
the condition of the vehicle

and as the other guy says - get a dongle and a free phone app and share what the stupid thing is trying to tell you

for £15 you can extract the exact info Ford diagnostics will tell you - for £250
