Battery drain gremlin

Featured Replies

Hello guys and gals.
I have a real mystery please help me!!

I’ve had my 2014 focus for just over a year now.
so at night the alarm goes off and then in the morning my battery is drained.
I’ve had new battery. New alternator.
my mechanic cannot find the drain.
he mentioned about the stop/start car needing a different battery but I’m not convinced it’s that because it did this before the battery was replaced and now after.
Also the engine will not shut down but the push button sometimes. I have to open the driver door and then it shuts off 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Plenty of parasitic drain videos and techniques on You Tube (clamp meter about £30 ish essential?), such as:

Or:

I'd watch these for ideas plus you can test across each underbonnet and other  fuses after latching bonnet  or doors and waiting for everything to go to sleep (or not) and then checking across each fuse with multimeter (other options are available) and the table is at:

Can't understand your mechanics comments or changing battery and alternator without justification, except that stop/starts normally need different battery and the door thing is weird requiring a look at fault codes/activation of door switch and starter signal?

That's my best!

Hello it was the battery. Halfords didn’t put a stop start battery on. Had they put the right one on I wouldn’t have had to have a new alternator. Very frustrating! I’ve been months without daring to drive it. Turns out it was the battery causing all these problems

So it's a combination of poor standard of supply compounded by incorrect diagnosis.

If mechanic noted incorrect battery, I can't understand why alternator was changed and if it was Halfords fault that wrong battery was fitted which led to all of the other problems, a complaint and, at the very least, some compensation for the cost of the parts is needed.

Thanks for telling us that sorry tale!
