P2002 Help/advice needed with Forscan data

Featured Replies

Hello all,

2019 Focus Estate 2.0 Diesel ST-Line X

Recently keep getting DTC 'P2002 - Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1' flag up the EML. No limp mode or loss of performance noticed.

I took it back to the garage as it is still within the 3 months since buying it and they thought that it was the bank 1 nox sensor at fault so it was replaced, but it came back up again shortly afterwards.

I brought a cable for Forscan and did a live data view while going for a drive and attached are the results.

Can anyone suggest anything from the data visible? Is there something else I should trend to tell me more?

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I go back to the garage again. Unfortunately it is a 2 hour drive there so can't be going back and forth.

Thanks!

I would be tempted to get the PCM software updated.

Especially if the module software list is saying there's a higher level available

You can go to any Ford dealer, it doesn't have to be the one you bought it from, whichever is nearer

Where can I check this within Forscan? Do you think this has anything to do with the EML?

There is a tab on the top of the connection screen shows the module software tree

You need to ensure you are connected to the internet

Ok I will have a look shortly, thanks for that.

Is there anything else I could trend to eliminate or prove certain components?

I’ve been reading also that it could be perished hoses from the DPF to the sensor. Can this be seen from the graphs?

Just reviewing the data again, it’s shows the DPF exhaust gas flow rate at 1000000.00l/h when the stationary snap shot was taking, and on the trends it’s either that or 0. Doesn’t look right to me?

Took the car to the garage the other day and the Adblue injector port was found to be nearly fully blocked with crystallised Adblue. This was all cleared and tested over 200 miles but the light has come back on so looks like it’s back to the garage again!

Your High/Low gas flow rate, as you say doesn't look right and the Wall Substrate temperature is 4800 degrees (Ouch, whatever that is inferred from!) ?
As an aside, this blockage due to crystallisation seems VERY common, presumably depending on operating conditions which you can't always know/account for?

There are additives that claim/should prevent this which I'd certainly use if we had AdBlue as parts seem very expensive?

I will mention this to the garage about the flow rate, as I never got a chance to have a proper chat with the mechanic last time. It might point to something that he is familiar with.

I've seen additives that I might start using routinely to try stay clear of all this trouble in the furture!

From the original post:

Vehicle may have particulate matter sensor or other fault around that code?
I'd be wanting to check DPF differential pressure related to recorded soot levels (open and closed loop) to see if they are consistent as a first look?)

If the DPF differential pressure pipes are blocked or a have a split, that will obviously upset the reading so they need to be pressure tested and checked for flow.
This code does need investigating/clearing permanently (and you need to understand why it is set in case it happens again?)

I can't make much sense of the graphs above unfortunately.
The additives you mention may be classed as Snake Oil but, personally, I rate them (the ones that prevent AdBlue crystallisation - which can turn into an expensive problem, and the ones that have an additive package to duplicate "premium" fuel but at half the differential e.g. Archoil - I certainly rate that but others may not)

Edit: a quick test is to wipe finger on exhaust and if anything other than very slightly black, DPF  may be damaged/cracked (one reason to avoid forced regens if possible)

This was eventually sorted by Ford direct. I received a recall letter saying that there was a PCM update required as in some cases it is causing DPFs to crack. And if they were, they would be replaced FOC. They inspected the DPF and sure enough it was cracked!
