Yes, just one of many poor design decisions on that engine. They did introduce a service procedure involving adding a level sensor to the reservoir to give warning of coolant loss and on later revisions of the engine added a cylinder head temperature sensor as @JW1982 has said.

The coolant level sensor recall was only applicable to the 1.6 ECOboost. This recall was performed because of safety reasons.

On the Kuga 1.6 ECOboost there were a few cases where loss of coolant / overheating caused the cylinder head to crack. The cracked cylinder head caused the engine oil to leak onto the hot exhaust which results in a fire risk. After some casualties (in South Africa as far as I remember) Ford introduced a recall on all previously produced vehicles with a 1.6 ECOboost engine.

The coolant level sensor was never applied to other (ECOboost) engines.

On the 1.0 ECOboost the cylinder head temperature sensor was introduced on the Focus MK3.5. This sensor however can not be retrofitted to the MK3 because of missing wiring and PCM support (both the MK3 PCM hardware and software do not support the additional sensor).
