Fuel efficiency, focus titanium x diesel Vs hybrid petrol

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I currently own a 2025 titanium x diesel which with my motorway and congested traffic commute gives me about 55mpg or so, which is great since my drives are so long.

I'm looking to replace my car with a titanium x 2023, however it's petrol hybrid. Petrol is less efficient but I'd hope that with it being hybrid that I would get something similar to my current mileage.

Any thoughts/experience? Thanks!

Was that meant to say 2015?

Main difference is that the diesel will do 55mpg everywhere.  (Excluding very short journeys).  But the range on petrol MPG can vary greatly depending on the type of journeys you do.  I would expect 45-50mpg from the 1.0 MHEV on similar journeys but if it's a lot of stop start in congested traffic then I would expect that to be worse than the diesel.

2015, yes.

So a bit worse or significantly worse is what I should expect? Hmm. Could cost me significantly more then? Or does the cheaper petrol cost in the UK make up for that I wonder?

I do about 60-70 miles a day.

What sort of average speed?  If that's 60 miles a day averaging 60mph, that's very different to 60 miles a day averaging 20mph.

The price of fuel barely makes a difference.  Petrol is currently 7p per litre cheaper near me.  That means you'd need a petrol to average 53mpg to match the cost of a diesel averaging 55mpg.

It might do that if you're cruising at 60mph all day.  It won't do that in a lot of stop start traffic.

30 miles each way takes me 45-60 minutes...I cruise at 70 for most of it but about 5 miles of it is crawling and stop start. If that bit has no traffic, I could do it in 35 min rather than 45-60.

I think there are just too many variables in this case.

As a worst case scenario, I wouldn't expect less than 45mpg from a 1.0 MHEV Focus on the kind of journeys you're suggesting.
