Ford fiesta 1.0 Eco Brake lights strange operation

Featured Replies

When I press the brake pedal the passenger and upper tailgate brake lights come on but the driver's side lights go out.

Any ideas?

It's a simple and common problem.

The brake light bulb is also the tail light bulb. It has a twin filament and when one breaks it often falls on the other filament causing a fault between the brake lights and tail lights. The easiest solution is to replace both of the brake/tail bulbs.

In the unlikely case that replacing the bulbs doesn't fix the fault, then the problem is that the earth wire/connection on the light that goes out is broken or corroded.

A brake light bulb is twin filament.

One is 5W for lights, one is 21W for brake lights.

When you press the brake pedal it turns off the 5w filament and turns on the 21W filament

Your brake light bulb has popped

Make sure you get the correct one and fit it the correct way round
