Focus Mk3 - Recommend engine to buy? (NON WET BELT)

Featured Replies

Soon once my Focus repaired, and I'll 100% confirmed sell it and I will never touch 1.0 again.
As I wanted next car are same model Focus what I own (it's 2013 one) but attempting to aiming buy Mk3.5 due improvement but preferred non-welt timing belt system, I attempted to googles but no accurated answers what I need.

I do drive around upward 4k per years, I wanted petrol engine due fuel cheaper than diesel also I need good fuel MPG since car would many locally around town usages.

Been looked 1.5T and freaking hell, they worth least £7k dealer price.
Also should I get PowerShift auto gearbox or stay manual?

Does Focus Mk3 got powerfold mirror?

power shift was a disaster till build date July 2016

I have no idea which ford engines last more then 5 minutes - are there any ?

If you've ruled out 1.0 EcoBoost due to wetbelt, 1.5 EcoBoost due to cost, and diesel due to short journeys, that only leaves the 1.6 Ti-VCT engine...  Though I can't really recommend it.

Powerfold mirrors were spec dependant.  They were standard on Titanium X.  But optional on most other trim levels.

Powershift is just adding another potential failure point.  Stick to manual unless you need an auto.  (And if that is the case, buy something without a Ford badge).

Sounds like the OP will be an ideal candidate for a Nissan Leaf 🤣

If anything none good I’m tempted to buy Golf actually.

Speak of, some people wrote 1.6T ecoboost is it same 1.5T? Or I’m confusing because I never heard it?

The Mk 3 Focus range from 2010 included a 1.6 Ecoboost turbo in 150 and 182ps versions. When it was facelifted (Mk 3.5) for the 2015 model year this was downsized to 1.5 still with 150 and 182ps versions.

Both 1.6 and 1.5 have had cooling system issues, which have been reported on here.

I can't trustr ford with poor coolant and wetbelt at all, so I might end up Mazda 3 or Golf. (Golf is harder find decent one without over 160K miles)

Don't rule out Hyundai/Kia. My son's lady has had a couple of Kia Ceed, and they have both been good.

buy anything other than designed to fail german crap

the workers during recent unrest at the first ever factory closures (now on the dole queue) told VAG management the issue is the crap build and components they forced them to put on the cars is what has led to the destruction of their industry

Brexit and the Ukrainian mess is all part of lowing the standards of living for all European workers....  UK have been on poverty for 30 years now the rest of them are going to play catch up - it'll come out worse for them as UK never had the improved std of living much of western europe had - so we're used to the mess they are about to land

I driven both them brand it's seen very decent one.

Update: So, the garage replace hose and sadly it's still smoking oils from tailpipe... I'm finished with Focus ownership.

Also I forgot meant to there Focus Mk3 had 1.6 Sigma, if I'm lucky to can get that. Don't care if it's thirsty or slow but engine is GOAT as same engine family as my old Fiesta Mk6 1.4 whose done 125k miles didn't break at all and never let's me down.
