Fuel tank leak?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

New here but hoping someone can help as am a bit confused. I was checking the undercarriage of my fiesta this morning and noticed a small hole in the fuel tank. The engine was running at the time and the hole was dripping fluid (7 secs per drip ish). I thought I had a leak but their are no drips when the car is off and with a hole that big the tank would be empty by now. Also the fluid doesn't have a chemical smell (I suspect it's water).

Can anyone explain what this is? Is it a leak? Is it something else? I'm sure I'm just being stupid but would like a second opinion

The good news is that isn't the fuel tank.

Bad news is your spare wheel well in the boot may be full of water.  If not then even worse news is the water is getting in between the car body and the underseal.

Thanks Tom!

That's a relief re: the fuel tank. What is by the way if not?

Also re: the spare wheel well. Yes, my boot does have a problem staying dry. Looks like I need to find whats causing the leak in the rear.
