Focus Mk2 key Fob programming

Featured Replies

Hi, apologies for the boring question. My daughter 2006 mk2 Focus has an issue where the button on circuit board of key remote has broken.. I have found conflicting opinions on line about whether a new one can be programmed in car without software… can anyone shed some light please… as the value of car doesn’t warrant spending a fortune getting it done with Ford or locksmith.. it’s just the remote part of key she needs.

This should get the 'remote' part working. Without all original keys, you can't program the immobiliser without software aid... (Shown anyway just for interest)

thanks for help

You're best bet is to seek out a local independent locksmith and get a quote to supply/program/cut a new spare key. In Belfast I could get it done for around £80, so it may be cheaper than you think. Don't go to Ford, or Timpsons. Ford way too expensive, Timpson will simply 'clone' an existing key rather than safely program the car to accept a new key.

Cheap Ebay ones will cause you untold grief...

It’s expensive enough, tried a locksmith and he quoted €190… problem is the car isn’t locking all doors using the key in door… I can’t say for sure if it was always this way… it has always worked off the remote, until a few days ago, and a button is broke off… so I’m not fully sure the new fob will fix the problem, I’m worried something else is wrong also.

A 'cheap' fob off Ebay should cope easily with remote functions (program as above), you'll have issues though if you want it to immobilsie car for driving!

I was planning on just fitting the new remote part to her key and immobiliser chip.

The immobilser chip is built into the 'remote' part, it can be done with care, just be careful, and make sure your flooring can cope with a search should it fly off when prised out of original key LOL (no 2" shag pile!)

Sounds like you are talking from a bad experience lol

I was actually thinking of taping the immobiliser chip to the Ignition barrel to save hassle down the road if she ever lost the key, I remember  people doing it years ago to certain cars.

It should work. Use strong tape LOL and ensure driver is aware so if car ever fails to start, they can have a look on the floor to search where it's fallen off 🤣

Doing that will affect your car insurance since you have defeated the immobiliser.

Surely that would only happen if they knew about it? 😂
