Fiesta Mk7 Q's

Featured Replies

Hi

I would like some info on the Fiesta Mk7 Matrix MF Display, Trip Computer and the Ambient Lighting please.

With regard to the ambient lighting, the Ford Fiesta model booklet states the following, "a soft red glow emanates from the roof, glove box and the centre console", but when my friend unlocks his recently new Fiesta Zetec (in the evening), he has lighting in both footwells, a soft glow above the glove box and centre console but no soft red glow from the roof. Can anyone tell us why? Does this need to be enabled in the menu and if so, whereabouts?

Trip Computer: This uses the smaller information display between the rev counter and speedometer is activated by pushing the end of the left stalk to get the fuel mpg, distance to go etc, but we were under the impression that this information would be displayed by the main matrix multifunction display in the centre console?

Matrix MF Display: With reference to the paragraph above, if I'm wrong and the matrix display does not show the mpg etc, then besides displaying the the radio and CD details, what else can the centre dipslay show?

Thanks, BHeart

Hi

I have the Titanium Version and I have the two red led lights coming from the roof. They are integrated into the map reading lights

Hi Jamie

Thanks for your reply. :)

Two red lights integrated into the map reading lights and shining down from the roof - his Fiesta obvioulsy has the two map reading lights but we don't see any soft red glow emanating from the roof.

This feature is standard on the Zetec and Titanium and so, unless we missed it, the two integrated red lights should be there.

How long does the 'ambient lighting' stay on for?

Just a thought; it does mention 'ambient lighting' in the MENU, so we are wondering if the operation of the red lights integrated into the map lights are 'off' by default?

To me the 2 lights up next to the spot lights look more orange when on and shine faintly down on the area of the handbrake and they are quite small.

The matrix display cannot display anything from the instrument panel display and you are correct that the matrix only shows the radio, CD Bluetooth (if fitted) and menu information along with Ipod track information if you have the USB option. You also get messages including door open and seatbelt type stuff from the car's check system.

Hi,

Ambient Lighting - the LEDs within the interior light fitting - which cast the red glow from the roof (these are called "submarine lights") are wired through the ignition - not with the interior lights; they're on all the time when the ignition's on (day & night) & are not wired into the rest of the ambient lighting. The rest of the ambient lighting (illumination above the glove box & in the cubby hole below the heater controls) will go out when the interior lighting switches off, but will illuminate when the exterior lights are turned on - but only if the engine's running. There is an option on the "Menu" to enable the ambient lighting but it sounds as if this is already working on the Fiesta in question.

Trip Computer - no, the data can only be displayed in the small area between the speedometer & rev counter. I believe that newer build cars have a 2 line display here with the additional capability of an "instant mpg" readout; my older (Spring 2009) model has a 3 line display with no "instant mpg" & although this will display more data at once (e.g. total miles, outside temperature & average mpg all at the same time) the figures are smaller & the bottom row (total miles) can be a bit difficult to read as the bottom of the figures is almost hidden behind the instrument surround.

Matrix MF Display - if you have USB & Bluetooth (large display) this will show the name of the track playing (if you're listening via USB) & other related information. Also details such as your 'phone book etc. Plus it's used to configure a number of options e.g. audio settings (tone, balance, speed related volume adjustment etc), miles/kilometres, enable / disable "3x indicator flash for lane changes" etc etc. Not sure about the smaller non-USB & Bluetooth display though!

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Andy

Thanks for a great response to our questions. It was very detailed. :)

With regard to the ambient lighting, when you say, "the LEDs within the interior light fitting", do you mean integrated in the centre courtesy light or, within each map reading light?

We had another look when it was dark last night and as already stated in my earlier replies, when we unlock the Fiesta, both footwell lights come on and there is illumination above the glove box and in the cubby hole below the heater controls but, as far as any light shining down from the roof is concerned, the centre courtesy light is on but this is normal white light and the map reading lights either side of that, are off and, consequently, there is no red glow from the roof, either when the vehicle is moving, day or night.

Also, as you say, the rest of the ambient lighting goes out once the interior lighting goes off but, day or night, we just don't have any red glow shining down from the roof.

Have you any idea why?

With reference to the trip computer, I'm not sure if the display has a two or three line display. If your right then it ought to be two lines with the added capability of 'instant mpg' but I'll get back to you on that.

All understood with regard to the main matrix display.

We are just thinking that as the Zetec and Titanium are the only two models that have the ambient light and 'submarine lights', these particular features ought to be fully working and I expect we will be contacting the dealer over the next few days if we cannot resolve the problem.

Many thanks, BHeart

Hi Amarokuk

Thank you for your helpful response.

My response to andy64,more or less covers your reply and we hope that we can find a resolution to the ambient/submarine light problem before we contact the dealership.

Thanks again, BHeart

Hi - pleased that my ramblings were useful!

The "submarine lighting" comprises two small orange rectangular LEDs. These are part of the interior courtesy light fitting & are not located within the interior courtesy light or the map lamps - they're situated in the white plastic interior light moulding, mounted between each map light switch and the map light to which each switch relates. Just checked mine & they definitely come on as soon as I turn on the ignition. The "red glow" is quite dim - it's more noticeable really if it's very dark as a faint orange glow around the hanbrake lever etc though even in daylight I can see the LEDs light up as soon as I switch on the ignition.

Good luck!

If you look at the area with the two map lights and the interior light, You should be able to see two rectangular holes. This is where the submarine lighting comes from.

Hi

With regard to the ambient lighting and in particular, the 'submarine lighting', we looked again for the third time and sure enough, we finally noticed the two small amber led's and, in the dark, they do shine down upon the handbrake area. As I said, the led's are small and I think they were overlooked first and second time because we were expecting to see something a little more noticeable.

So, the mystery of the missing roof led's ends. Thank you for all of your help. :)

By the way, what is that small 'speaker like' grill just to the rear of the centre light cover?

Thanks, BHeart

Yes, the LEDs are quite small!

The grill is for the bluetooth microphone if you have bluetooth

Hi

Thank you for your input.

Yes the car has the FREE bluetooth with hands free calling with voice control and usb, so I guess the bluetooth mic will come in handy when it is set up.

Hi

UPDATE! Took delivery of my new Fiesta 1.25 Zetec yesterday. :)

After checking it out at the dealership, I drove it home and checked out a few things which I have already checked out for a friend of mine who also has a Fiesta Zetec and, I pleased to say that, apart from a few minor points which I have raised below and one of the headlamps being a little closer to the bonnet than the other, I am pleased with the car. Maybe I will chase that up in a few weeks or so when I've had time to note any other little issues.

One thing though, although the car drives really nice, the 'road noise' is quite loud and constant. I've read in other posts that this may be to do with the fitted tyres which, in my case, are Hankooks (I'm not sure if that is spelt correctly). Also noted that the Ford alloy wheels are prone to 'buckling' and, if true, I find that unacceptable but, we will just have to monitor that in the months to come.

I have noted one minor issue and that is with regard to the fitted courtesy lighting. I have a 5 door Fiesta and in the Fiesta model brochure, it states the following: Courtesy Lights - For front passengers, overhead with theatre style dimming; for rear passengers and in load compartment.

Now I can see the front courtesy lights and the load compartment light but I don't see any rear courtesy light in the back for the rear passengers. I've looked at the inside headlining several times and, unless I'm going mad, and blind, there is no courtesy light for rear passengers. So consequently, when a rear door is opened, there is no light shining down to aid entry.

So am I right and all 5 door Mk7 Fiesta's actually do not have a rear courtesy light? If so, I find that a bit disappointing because I've had many 5 door cars over the years and every one has had a rear courtesy light.

One last thing, I noticed that when I drove the car home last night, the main display was showing the lit red radio icon at the left side and also in the main display and I also think that all the other icons that normally appear on the left were green but, this morning when I went to work at 5am, only the radio icon was showing red at the side and in the display. I'm not sure if that's right or not?

Thanks, BHeart
